The YMCA of Western North Carolina announces a $40,000 donation to YMCA Camp Watia from the Brumit Restaurant Group (BRG) of Asheville. BRG held a month-long fundraiser at its 45 Arby’s franchises throughout North and South Carolina on behalf of YMCA Camp Watia, the Y’s new overnight summer camp located outside of Bryson City, N.C. The funds are the first installment in a five-year, $150,000 commitment to the camp from BRG as part of its support for the community.
“BRG is honored to make this donation to YMCA Camp Watia. We are so excited to see how our guests and employees rallied and stepped up to the challenge of raising funds for the camp. We had the opportunity to visit and observe the kids at camp and to see them enjoying themselves in this amazing environment made our initiative that much more worthwhile,” said JoAnn Yoder, president and COO of BRG.
“The dedication to local children and families shown by the Brumit Restaurant Group is a testament to the community spirit shared by Joe and Janice Brumit and the entire BRG team. We’re grateful for their generous support and for the support of their customers in providing a summer home away from home for kids at YMCA Camp Watia,” said Paul P. Vest, president and CEO of the YMCA of Western North Carolina.
YMCA Camp Watia is an overnight summer camp serving boys and girls ages 8–17. It was created to make the magical overnight camp experience accessible for all regional children.
