YMCA and Diamond Brand Outdoors partner to get kids outside

December 10, 2014

Beginning Black Friday through December 24th, 1% of all sales at Diamond Brand Outdoors, Asheville will go directly to supporting the YMCA of Western North Carolina’s afterschool, educational enrichment, and summer learning loss programs.

Holiday shoppers can now find the outfitter at its innovative new store next to Liberty Bicycles and The Fresh Market in South Asheville’s Biltmore Parkway Centre, on 1378 Hendersonville Road. Doors are now open, and the official Grand Opening event will take place December 5th.

The Diamond Brand Outdoors’ “1% for the Y” initiative has raised a combined total of over $25,000 for YMCA of Western North Carolina the past several years since the partnership began.

“Diamond Brand Outdoors’ support plays a major role in sustaining our efforts to get kids outside, active, and connecting with nature and each other,” said YMCA of Western North Carolina’s President and CEO Paul Vest.

Y programs guide middle schoolers on the trails in Western North Carolina or in the Y’s community vegetable garden. “Study after study points to how essential time in nature is for overall childhood learning and development, Vest explained. “Kids need these programs to discover all that our landscape has to offer them.”

Diamond Brand’s president and owner Will Gay said, “We are inspired by the Y’s programs that enable youth to have invaluable outdoor experiences. This program truly resonates with the core of our company’s values.”

It’s no secret that Diamond Brand Outdoors is the go-to outfitter for serious fun in the Blue Ridge Mountains, but surprising loved ones with outdoor gifts—even better.
The YMCA, Diamond Brand Outdoors initiative begins November 28th and continues until Christmas Eve.
