On Friday, May 10 at 2:30pm, less than six months after raising the first wall, Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity will celebrate the completion of the 2012 Xmas Jam House. Warren Haynes, in town to accept an honorary degree from UNCA, will join Habitat staff and supporters to welcome Shannon Kauffman and her son home during a ceremonial key presentation and house dedication. The event will be held on Brotherton Avenue in Habitat’s Carney Place neighborhood. Media and community well-wishers are invited to attend.
With nearly 200 hours of sweat equity completed, including homeownership preparation classes, Kauffman is excited to soon move into Habitat’s thriving Carney Place neighborhood. She is grateful to Haynes and all the musicians that perform in the Xmas Jam for the benefit of families like hers, and she looks forward to thanking him in person on May 10.
The short program will include:
Welcome by Ellen Carr, Family Selection Committee
Presentation of keys by Warren Haynes to the Kauffman family
Expression of gratitude by Shannon Kauffman
Dedication of the home by Timothy Burnette, Pastor of Covenant Church of the Highlands
To date, Warren Haynes Presents: The Annual Christmas Jam has contributed $1.16 million to Asheville Area Habitat’s building programs and helped 21 families become homeowners. The Jam continues to be the organization’s single largest annual funding contributor and the awareness (for Habitat’s work) generated by the Xmas Jam is unmatched. Kit Rains, Development Director for Asheville Area Habitat says, “It is hard to find words to adequately express our profound gratitude for Warren and Stefani’s commitment to the work of Habitat, and this affiliate in particular.”
