2nd Annual Asheville Duathlon & Inaugural 10k Trail Run + Du 4 kids: Just as September transforms the warmth of summer into the harvest of autumn, this race transfers energy across the arbitrary bounds of sport: road into trail, “on foot” to “in the saddle,” and back again!
Sunday, September 14th, 2014, endurance athletes of all abilities will step to the start line, hearts booming in anticipation, to compete in the 2nd annual duathlon or the brand new, inaugural 10k trail run events held at Biltmore Estate. Are you ready to Du the Asheville Du + 10k Trail Run?! The Duathlon is a 5k road run, off-road 10 mile bike and then another 5k run through packed dirt and single track, designed to challenge both mind and body. The newly added 10k Trail Run + Du 4 Kids (run/bike) event will meander through the beautiful trails and dirt roads on Biltmore Estate.
Location & Course Information: These races are held upon the illustrious grounds of Biltmore Estate, America’s largest privately-owned home. The 250-room French Renaissance-style chateau is located over 8,000-acres that include more than 80 acres of meticulously-tended gardens, around which you can “Du what you Du” this September! Duathletes will start their adventure with a 5k run on paved roads that will be a flat, out and back course starting at the Winery and paralleling the French Broad River. Then transition to mountain bikes and ride onto packed dirt and gravel roads over through the west side of the estate, where racers will slip by working vineyards, normally off-limits to the public. Mountain bikes are recommended for the bike portion of the event. The 2nd duathlon run is for the adventure seeker, as it is the most challenging leg of the race, complete with dirt roads and technical single track trail.
The Inaugural 10k trail run starts opposite of the duathlon’s first 5k run and will run on wide dirt carriage roads for a mile until reaching the Westover Trails at Biltmore Estate. Meander through these beautiful forest trails before you venture back through wide carriage roads to the finish area, which is close to the Antler Hill Village parking area.
The NEW Du 4 Kids is also part of the Carolina Kid’s MultiSport Race Series. The paved 5k run and 10 mile dirt/gravel mountain bike will be challenging for youth. Experienced kids ten and older are permitted to race as individuals, and two-person youth teams are also allowed.
Relay Team Challenge: Like sophisticated packs of high society fox hunters, on a never ending quintessential journey for the elusive quarry, racers can round up with their fellows and friends (in relay teams of 2 or 3) to prove their mettle or give the course a shot on their own.
