Tessier Group continued its upward trajectory in real estate and property management. Over the last few years, new positions have been added to offer additional maintenance options and home watch services while using technology to operate more efficiently. Tessier Group’s commitment to professionalism and responsiveness builds long-term relationships and delivers a high level of service for their clients.
Ed Holmes & Associates Land Surveyors, PA
Ed Holmes & Associates has scaled impressively in recent years, expanding both in team and geographic reach. The company has systematically added new leadership positions, strengthening its ability to scale and manage projects more efficiently. Meanwhile, they have diversified their services, increased workforce expertise and enhanced client engagement. Their investment in advanced technologies, like mobile mapping and remote sensing, allows them to solve complex problems while supporting smart, long-term development across the region.
Haakon Industries
Haakon Industries, a world leader in custom designed and manufactured air handling units, has made a big impact since opening their WNC facility growing to 57 local employees. Haakon has been creative with support from other locations in problem solving issues unique to Asheville. Building and implementing new processes for manufacturing here has improved processes at their other facilities, changing older procedures to be more innovative and efficient.
Quility
Quility has transformed the insurance industry by developing technology that streamlines sales and distribution. Through data-driven decision making and strategic tech investments, they’ve made life insurance easier for professionals and clients alike. Headquartered in Swannanoa, Quility faced the heartbreak of Hurricane Helene not only as a business but as a deeply embedded member of the community. As “boots on the ground,” the Quilty team offered spaces for gathering and activated relief hubs, serving as a powerful example of community-minded business.
Semper Fi Custom Remodeling
Semper Fi Custom Remodeling turned adversity into opportunity by launching a dedicated restoration division to help families recover from storm damage. With a foundation of integrity and expert craftsmanship, they provide tailored remodeling experiences that large builders cannot. Their client-first approach, investment in skilled in-house insurance advocacy, and expanded operations ensure top-tier service. Recognized with industry awards and local “Best of” honors, Semper Fi continues to grow, adding a second location while remaining a trusted partner in home restoration and remodeling.
Asheville Arborists
With a sharp rise in emergency tree work after the storm, Asheville Arborists worked diligently to restore safety across neighborhoods. Despite losing equipment in the hurricane, the team pressed on—guided by a culture of collaboration, innovation, and service. Their longstanding partnership with Beloved Asheville and hands-on disaster response exemplify their deep commitment to the people and landscapes of WNC.
Appalachian Restoration & Cleaning
Appalachian Restoration & Cleaning was among the first on the scene as homes across the region flooded and sustained severe damage. Their 20-year track record of expertise in water and mold remediation was put to the test—and they delivered, investing in new equipment and expanding their team to meet demand. Known for treating employees like family, the company stepped up for both their clients and community when it mattered most.
A-American Electric
With over 100 employees, A-American Electric has grown into one of the region’s most respected electrical contractors. In 2024, A-American Electric responded to surging demand by accelerating hiring and expanding service offerings. They are dedicated to employee development and strive to be known as a charitable electrical contracting company where teammates are proud to work, vendors are treated fairly and customers receive the highest quality service.
Matcha Nude
Matcha Nude has carved out a niche by making high-quality matcha accessible and approachable. This small company has leaned into storytelling, education and sustainability as key pillars of growth. Adding a few part-time staff has allowed founder Samm Coffin to delegate important tasks while allowing her to focus on projects that move the needle for the company’s growth. Their thoughtful, grassroots approach resonates with health-conscious customers and reflects their deep care for community wellness, one sip at a time.
Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC)
MAHEC’s legacy of training healthcare professionals and delivering essential services puts them on the frontlines in times of crisis as well as in everyday matters of health and well-being. Following Helene, the MAHEC team deployed medical professionals to shelters and hard-hit neighborhoods. One of our area’s largest employers, MAHEC continues to enhance its ability to expand comprehensive, accessible and affordable healthcare to all populations while also exploring innovative solutions to public health challenges.
Western Carolina Rescue Ministries
Western Carolina Rescue Ministries has served Asheville for 44 years, providing shelter, recovery programs and essential resources to those facing homelessness, poverty and addiction. With expanded mental health support, employment assistance and connection to services, Western Carolina Rescue Ministries continues to transform lives, offering not just temporary relief but a path toward long-term stability. Responding to community need, the nonprofit was on the front lines of Helene’s humanitarian response, providing shelter, food, clothing and medical care—ultimately helping secure permanent housing for over 100 displaced residents.
Appalachian Mountain Health
Appalachian Mountain Health takes a whole-person approach to healthcare, serving residents throughout Western North Carolina. They have significantly increased staffing over the last three years, expanding behavioral health and dental departments and bringing previously outsourced services in-house. These investments have allowed them to serve more patients and deepen their commitment to serving as a healthcare safety net—particularly for underserved populations.
All Souls Counseling Center
All Souls Counseling Center has long been a lifeline for individuals without access to mental healthcare. In the wake of Helene, they scaled services dramatically—deploying clinicians to emergency shelters and launching community-wide mental health programs. Their innovative outreach to younger residents through partnerships with student-athletes underscores their forward-thinking approach to addressing rising mental health needs with care and creativity.
Town Mountain Maids
Town Mountain Maids is Asheville’s highest-rated independent cleaning company, known for top industry wages and employee development. Partnering with Cleaning for a Reason, they provide free services to cancer patients, extending their commitment to care beyond clean homes. By restructuring pay and creating a proprietary training program, they professionalize the role of residential cleaners, offering career growth and transferable skills. This dedication to valuing employees has built a culture of pride, excellence and exceptional service.
Carolina Outdoor Lighting
Known for creating atmosphere through light and shadow, Carolina Outdoor Lighting attributes their noteworthy growth to an expanded team and strong reputation. Increased staffing has allowed the company to take on more projects while maintaining the high level of service and quality that set them apart. Word-of-mouth referrals and strategic partnerships have further reinforced their resilience. Their thoughtful designs and emphasis on craftsmanship have illuminated landscapes across the community.
Plato’s Closet Asheville
Plato’s Closet Asheville is a go-to for gently used teen and young adult clothing, recycling over 88,000 items in 2024. The company builds customer loyalty by paying cash for the gently used items they buy from customers. Owner Ann Brown provides work experience and mentoring for her teen and young adult staff members. Their fashion-forward sustainability, mixed with real community care, is a standout in local retail.
Black Balsam Wealth Advisors
Black Balsam Wealth Advisors has grown steadily by blending expert financial planning with heartfelt community connection. As they said, “Clients become friends and friends become clients.” This small staff of six serves over 1,200 households with a 96% client retention rate. Their commitment to accessibility—especially for young professionals just starting out—demonstrates that financial planning can be both empowering and compassionate.
Lakeview Putt and Play, LLC
Lakeview Putt and Play brings joy to the community through mini golf, laser tag, and family fun. They have approached adversity as a chance to innovate. They added new indoor experiences, refreshed their marketing, and leaned into partnerships with local schools and organizations. Their playful spirit, paired with serious adaptability, keeps them a bright spot for locals and visitors alike.
Asheville Sun Soo Martial Arts
Asheville Sun Soo Martial Arts is one of the largest and most successful martial arts schools in the country. Their programming aims to develop people of all ages into their best selves. Sun Soo has continued to enhance their out-of-school programming for families, providing enrichment activities, homework support and student mentoring—including all-day care when schools were closed last fall. Post-storm, they mobilized student volunteers for debris cleanup in service to the community at large.
A Look at Asheville
A Look at Asheville has been a trusted Asheville guidebook for over 20 years, helping visitors experience the very best of Western North Carolina. They believe the publication plays a crucial role in driving the success and visibility of local entrepreneurs, especially in difficult times. Recent initiatives include a community fundraiser to amplify visibility for small businesses. The locally written and photographed guidebook continues to be a powerful tool for promoting local businesses.
Mosaix Group
A leader in event planning, Mosaix Group has earned several prestigious international awards for creativity, including Best Program award from the leading association governing their industry. From transportation and tours to local artisans for craft fairs and musical acts for entertainment, they ensure clients experience the true essence of our region. Their ability to stay nimble and service-oriented while championing Asheville and delivering world-class event experiences showcases their depth, experience and heart.
Asheville Art Museum
The Asheville Art Museum strives to engage, enlighten and inspire individuals and enrich community through dynamic experiences in American Art. The museum offers a state-of-the-art facility, world-class exhibitions, and engaging educational programming for all ages. In recent months, the museum has been a space for community reflection, with free art-making and conservation workshops. Their upcoming Asheville Strong exhibition showcases regional artists and honors the creative resilience of the Appalachian community.
McHone Performance Training
Just weeks before the storm, McHone Performance Training had expanded into a brand-new gym space—only to see it devastated by floodwaters. But that didn’t stop them. They moved workouts outdoors, borrowed gear, and kept training clients wherever they could. Their philosophy of movement as medicine guided both their physical recovery and their support of community members rebuilding after Helene. MPT is living proof that strength starts with resilience.
Blue Ridge Technology, Inc.
As an IT services provider, Blue Ridge Technology faced a unique challenge when looters recently took all their equipment and tools. But their team rose to the occasion—bringing in personal equipment and tools from local thrift stores to continue supporting clients. Most notably, they installed free Starlink internet for local businesses to help them reopen quickly. Their actions reflect not only technical skill but a profound sense of community responsibility.
Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity ReStore
Asheville’s Habitat ReStore was hit hard by Helene—losing inventory, equipment, and four months of revenue to storm flooding. But they rebounded with resilience; staff temporarily joined forces with MANNA FoodBank to meet community needs. The Asheville ReStore has reopened stronger than ever thanks to community support and creative partnerships. The ReStore continues to serve as a hub for affordable goods, waste reduction and housing support.
Arbor Zen Hardwood Floors
Specializing in custom hardwood floors with a strong focus on sustainability, Arbor Zen met Hurricane Helene head-on when their warehouse flooded. Rather than retreat, they pressed forward—completing renovations to their design center and launching community events like “Strings of Hope” to support rebuilding. With over 40,000 trees planted through their 25 Tree Promise, Arbor Zen continues to grow roots in both craft and community.
The Village Potters Clay Center
The Village Potters Clay Center is a cornerstone of Asheville’s vibrant arts community, dedicated to inspiring creativity through education, experience and collaboration. Upended by Helene, The Village Potters Clay Center has worked to restore equipment, raise funds and provide clay supplies for regional artists. With plans to open in June, the Village Potter’s new space will see the relaunch of education programs, expanded clay supply and studio space to over 30 displaced artists.
