Serendipity Elder Services, Inc. was newly licensed by the State of North Carolina as a homemaker-companion agency, located in Black Mountain, to assist residents of Buncombe County.
Owner and administrator Peter W. Schoen is a long-time elder services provider, and former owner of a successful homemaker-companion agency, Harmony Elder Services, Inc., in Plantation, Florida.
“Western North Carolina has become increasingly desirable to retirees seeking a temperate climate, arts and culture, a great health system, a beautiful natural environment, and a sense of community,” Schoen said. “But aging is inevitable and people often need a little help to cope with unexpected physical limitations or health challenges.
“Right now, Serendipity is seeking to hire mature, experienced caregivers,” Schoen said. “All candidates receive orientation and necessary training, and are required to have a background screening.”
After thirty years as a senior care provider, Schoen believes that the best caregivers are kind, pleasant, patient, and mature.
Schoen believes that Serendipity – a professional, fully licensed homemaker-companion service agency – offers the best possible option for seniors who need nonmedical assistance with daily living activities to remain independent and enjoy the comfort and familiarity of the home they love.
Serendipity provides assistance on a flexible basis: hourly, daily, weekly, and even live-in companionship. Services include respite for the primary caregiver, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, shopping, companionship, and transportation to medical appointments, visits with family and friends, worship, malls, parks, entertainment, and more.
“We’re seeking people in the health and eldercare services, as well as individuals who have taken care of their own family members: grandparents, parents, spouses, aunts and uncles,” Schoen said. “Serendipity offers job opportunities for retirees, housewives, mothers whose children have grown. We’re looking for people with compassion and respect for seniors’ needs. People who can relate to our clients’ stage of life and concerns.”
Schoen, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree from New York University and a Master’s in Health Services Administration from Florida International University, is a licensed nursing home administrator with more than 30 years’ experience.
