On Monday March 7th RiverLink partnered with student group “Bear Breaks” from Missouri State University to clean a section of Sweeten Creek. This was the first project for the student’s alternative spring break in Asheville. They will continue to do projects with organizations such as GreenWorks and others over the next few days.
Sweeten Creek flows directly into the Swannanoa River and is notorious for being highly polluted. During this service day students pulled heaps of scrap metal and wood out of the creek along with inner tubes, hubcaps, and much more.
RiverLink will continue to work with alternative spring break groups throughout the next few months. They will conduct stream cleanups and invasive species removal throughout Buncombe County and the French Broad River watershed.
