Asheville, NC – In conjunction with the Economic Development Coalition for Asheville – Buncombe County (EDC), precision plastic products manufacturer Nypro proudly announces a $7.2 million expansion investment in new machinery and equipment and the addition of 26 new production and engineering jobs to its current workforce of 275 employees. Nypro Asheville, which manufactures devices for the world’s leading healthcare companies, is making the investment in a unique industry alliance with pharmaceutical manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline to produce parts for respiratory inhalers.
The announcement marks the firm’s second significant expansion in the past 12 months and caps a year of job creation and revenue growth for the employer. In October 2010, Nypro announced an expansion that will add over 75,000 square feet of manufacturing space and 156 new jobs to the plant located in the Vista Industrial Center. A grand opening of the plant expansion is scheduled for April 2012.
According to Plant Manager Joe Freitas, “This alliance is part of our strategic partnership with GlaxoSmithKline and our plan to expand healthcare plastics manufacturing at key sites around the world. We competed aggressively for this business, and owe a debt of gratitude to the world-class staff in Asheville whose reputation for quality and excellence is recognized by our customers worldwide. Nypro has been manufacturing in Buncombe County over 20 years and the future for medical products manufacturing in this community is bright.”
“In the global competition for jobs, the Nypro Asheville Team is competing and winning,” said EDC Chairman K. Ray Bailey. “In the process, they are making a name for Buncombe County as a region where the workforce is skilled and innovative, and American manufacturing can thrive. We are grateful for their success; our families, neighborhoods and communities will be stronger as a result.”
