Joining a coalition of chambers of commerce across North Carolina, the Asheville Chamber signed on to a letter to the NC Congressional Delegation to demand action be taken on another stimulus bill before the end of the year.
NC Congressional Delegation:
Thank you for your leadership during this time of unprecedented crisis. We are fortunate to have committed elected officials in North Carolina, who are leading and serving our state.
Together, our coalition represents more than 150,000 businesses across the state and collectively we have shared purpose in advancing economic growth for all, reaching every corner of North Carolina. We stand united in providing a voice for businesses of all sizes.
While our state’s healthcare and other essential industries and workers continue to help lead us locally, nationally, and globally through this pandemic, support has been vital because of the increased costs of operating safely and efficiently. Relief remains important especially to the sectors that continue to be most impacted, including airlines, airports, entertainment, events and venues, gyms and fitness centers, hotels, personal care, restaurants and bars, retail, sports, schools, tourism, and travel.
As you continue to negotiate the many needs that persist because of the links between economic health and public health, the undersigned chambers of commerce from across the state urge you to support additional emergency assistance for employers such as the Paycheck Protection Program and liability protections that also recognize state progress on these issues, as well as more flexible state and local aid. These measures will help spur recovery efforts all across this state by helping businesses and their employees continue to meet the needs of customers and suppliers in critical industries as well as their families.
While we understand negotiations on bills such as this are difficult, businesses and individuals are in urgent need of assistance before the end of the year.
Thank you in advance for your consideration and efforts to ensure the strength, resiliency, and vibrancy of the North Carolina economy.
