Mars Hill University Annual Clothesline Project
October 29, Thursday, 10am-2pm Location: Front of Pittman Dining Hall
Mars Hill University’s Annual Clothesline Project will be held October 29, from 10 am – 2 pm in front of Pittman Dining Hall. This event visibly promotes awareness by hanging decorated t-shirts on a clothesline. Each t-shirt represents an individual who has experienced some type of domestic violence. Besides promoting awareness, the Clothesline Project serves as source of healing for those who have been directly affected by violence.

Panel about Southern Appalachian Forests
October 29, Thursday 7pm- 8:30pm        Location: Peterson Conference Room (Inside Blackwell Hall)
A Panel about Southern Appalachian Forests, featuring Mary Kelly, Matthew McCombs, Will Harlan, and Josh Kelly. October 29, 2015 at 7 p.m., Peterson Conference Center, First Floor Blackwell Hall, Mars Hill University. These experts in the field and passionate supporters of Southern Appalachian Forests will discuss the history and future of our forests.

MHU Jazz Band Concert

The students from the Mars Hill University Jazz Band will be performing their pieces of music .

Dr. Charlie Thompson:  “Border Odyssey”
November 3, Tuesday 5pm Location: Belk Auditorium
Dr. Charlie Thompson, Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Center for Documentary Studies, Duke University, will discuss his book, “Border Odyssey, “and his experiences in meeting people that live along the US/Mexico border. This book is described as “A potent cri de Coeur for a more compassionate, sane and humane border policy.” Thompson “has published scholarship on issues of immigration, agriculture and border politics and has brought students to borderland regions. This book represents a combination of reportage, travelogue, memoir and jeremiad.”

Crossroads

Speaker: Christian Piatt, author, musician and spoken word artist. He serves as the Director of Growth and Development for First Christian Church (DOC) in Portland, OR. Piatt has written numerous blogs and articles for Huffington Post, Patheos, Red Letter Christians and others.  He is the creator and editor of the Banned Questions book series, and he has authored several books dealing with  faith, sexuality and the questions of Christianity, including: Post Christian: What’s Left? Can We Fix It? Do We Care?, and LOST: A Search for Meaning.

Student Debate on Voter Identification Laws in NC
November 9, Monday, 8pm Location: Belk Auditorium
Students and student coaches will debate the new NC voter identification laws and voting identification/
changes in general.

In Eurydice, Sarah Ruhl reimagines the classic myth of Orpheus through the eyes of its heroine. Dying too young on her wedding day, Eurydice must journey to the underworld, where she reunites with her father and struggles to remember her lost love. With contemporary characters, ingenious plot twists, and breathtaking visual effects, the play is a fresh look at a timeless love story. Directed by Jessica West
