The Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC) is offering Basic Life Support in Obstetrics (BLSOSM) trainings on November 30 and December 11 at its Biltmore campus to help healthcare providers, first responders and emergency personnel effectively manage normal deliveries and obstetrical emergencies.
With the goal of improving health outcomes for mom and baby, these daylong trainings provide numerous opportunities for participants to practice real-life scenarios including normal deliveries, unusual presentations like breech or shoulder dystocia, preterm labor, and emergency deliveries requiring maternal or neonatal resuscitation.
“I’m grateful we can provide these life-saving trainings to first responders and medical providers across our region,” shares Amber Henson, MD, MAHEC third-year resident and BLSO® course instructor.
These trainings are being offered to some participants at a greatly reduced cost thanks to support from Mission Health. Physicians, nurses, healthcare providers and emergency personnel are encouraged to attend.
Early registration is recommended to avoid additional mailing fees for the course syllabus that participants are required to bring to the training. Registrants must complete and score at least 80% on a pre-course exam before attending the BLSOSM Provider Course.
