JPS announces Bud Hughes’ retirement

June 14, 2016

JPS Bud Hughes “Born and raised in both Boone and Weaverville, Bud purposefully chose to remain in western North Carolina to serve clients, people, communityand profession. A North Buncombe High School graduate, he then graduated from Mars Hill College summa cum laude with a B.S. in Accounting.

His career spanned many accounting sectors through the years providing Bud with a vast array of knowledge and experience. He served as an IRS tax agent, a federal tax manager for a Fortune 500 textile company, partnered with his brother, Scott, in Hughes, Hughes & Company PA, and, upon merging their practice with JPS in 2004, became a JPS Shareholder. Truly he has seen many sides and changes in taxation throughout the years.

Bud has been dedicated to JPS clients, our community and his family. He’s played an active role in the community throughout the years, including serving as a Board of Trustee at Mars Hill College and an active volunteer at First Baptist Church of Asheville, Habitat for Humanity, and United Way of Asheville/Buncombe County, to name a few.

“I’ve enjoyed the people at JPS I’ve worked with and feel blessed by my client relationships. I enjoyed following clients through their lives and life transitions. It’s easy to see accounting as a business transaction but it’s been a personal connection that’s more important than a tax return. Thank you to all my clients and colleagues for your friendships and letting me be a part of your lives.”  – Bud Hughes

In retirement, Bud looks forward to spending time with his family, especially the grandkids, traveling, enjoying time at the beach, and, continuing to serve western North Carolina.

Benjamin C. Hamrick, JPS CEO and Shareholder, shares “Bud has made a very positive and significant contribution to our firm, clients and community. On behalf of our entire firm, we thank and congratulate Bud and wish him the best in retirement.”
