iDaph produces inaugurual Appalachian Aquathlon, 5k and Kids Triathlon – June 8th

May 27, 2014

Kick off summer right with a set of new HIP FUN RACES: The Inaugural Appalachian Aquathlon, 5k, & Kids Triathlon! Looking to bring our community and families together in the pool, on the bike, and challenging one another’s foot speed, this fresh event on Sunday, June 8th, 2014, will be held on the thoroughfares and swimming lanes in and around one of the Southeast’s best private educational institutions.

The events combine something for everyone — You can just run an off-road 5k or you can swim and run (aquathlon) and also bring the kids to swim, bike and run in the kids triathlon! The Kid’s Triathlon kicks off the Carolina Kids MultiSport Series for the year and was custom designed with both kids and parents in mind.

The aquathlon and 5k are suitable for participants of all ages and skill levels. The Aquathlon will be comprised of two legs: a Swim of 300 yards (12 lengths of the pool), and a subsequently following 5k off-road run. Participants can also opt to run the same 5k-run leg as a standalone event. The third event to be held is the Appalachian Kids Triathlon and will be part of a Carolina Kids Multisport Series. What’s more, lap-by-lap setups provide excellent opportunities for kids to interact with the supportive urges from their entourage of spectators, in which they will pass bystanders multiple times over the course of the races.

The world-renowned Asheville School has been chosen as the site for the first Annual Appalachian Aquathlon, 5k Run, & Kids’ Triathlon. This historic, 300-acre pastoral campus is the perfect setting for this multi-sport event, in which participants, their friends and their family members have the convenient option of multiple race formats to best suit their fancies. It has held a place of distinction in the field of independent education for more than 100 years as one of the nation’s leading boarding schools.
A nurturing, close-knit community with a rich tradition of athletics, the school teaches students important lessons of the playing field, and outdoors to nurture character and foster the development of mind, body, and spirit, embodying the very principles iDaph hopes to purvey to our region. Since 1996, it has even belonged to the honorable roll of the National Register of Historical Places.

Registrations for these three events are now available at IMATHLETE: 5k – $19, Kids Triathlon – $23 and Aquathlon – $35 and limited to 250 participants. Optional t-shirts are also available to purchase with your race registration. All kids participating in the kids triathlon will receive a finisher medal and overall/age group award winner prizes available for both the 5k and aquathlon races.  For more information, please visit the official Appalachian Aquathlon site page, or contact events@idaph.net.
