Inspired by her late son, Alexander Nikolai Hylton, Rochelle has crafted a business that not only honors his memory but also addresses the needs of an often overlooked segment of the population. Her commitment to creating stylish, functional, and affordable pieces has quickly resonated with many, earning her a place in the hearts of the Asheville community.
Rochelle’s journey into jewelry-making began in 2012 as a therapeutic hobby shared with friends who were also caregivers for children with special needs. Over the years, this hobby evolved into a full-fledged passion, leading to the establishment of Xanikton Creations.

Tell us about your business and the role you play in it.
Xanikton Creations, founded and owned by me, was registered in October 2022. My business focuses primarily on creating accessible jewelry for individuals with strength, dexterity, and mobility challenges. To achieve this, I use alternative closures such as magnetic clasps, toggles, and hook clasps instead of the standard lobster or spring ring clasps. Additionally, I create pieces that do not require closures. Recently, I started making my own clasps to better match the style of my jewelry. Interestingly, my chainmaille jewelry doubles as fidgets, which has been beneficial for those in need. Besides jewelry, I also design humorous stickers and have plans to expand my product lines in the future.
How did you get your idea or concept for the business?
The concept for Xanikton Creations originated in 2012 when I began making jewelry with friends who, like me, were caregivers for children with special needs. This hobby served as a stress-reliever and a way to combat isolation. Over time, my passion for jewelry-making grew, leading to the establishment of my business. My background includes a variety of crafts such as woodworking, sewing, 3D printing, and laser cutting and engraving.
How did you decide on a name?
The name Xanikton is a combination of my son’s names – Alexander Nikolai Hylton. He was the inspiration behind my company. Alexander had co-occurring conditions of Autism and Down Syndrome, which required numerous accommodations. Tragically, he passed away at 16 years old in December 2021. He loved people, and naming my business after him is a way to honor his memory.
What makes your business unique in its field?
Xanikton Creations stands out by serving an often-overlooked segment of the population. I provide affordable, stylish, and accessible jewelry, ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, can look and feel good. My goal is to enhance the experience and independence associated with a typically mundane task.
How many employees do you have?
Currently, I am the sole employee of Xanikton Creations, though my family assists when they can.
During your first year of business, what was the greatest lesson you learned?
As I am still in my first year, the greatest lesson has been the importance of genuine community upliftment. People respond positively when they see your authentic desire to make a difference. I’ve discovered that many appreciate my company’s vision and mission, and my story resonates with more people than I could have imagined. It’s hard work, but immensely rewarding.
Where do you see your business in the next five years?
In the next five years, I aim for Xanikton Creations to be recognized as a leading example in creating products for individuals with physical and neurological challenges.
Why did you decide to join the Chamber?
I joined the Chamber because I align with their mission of improving the lives of everyone in the community. They offer substantial support and visibility to local businesses, which is invaluable.
What is your favorite part about doing business in the Asheville area?
The supportive and encouraging community in Asheville is my favorite aspect of doing business here. Even those who do not need my products show curiosity and support for new ventures, making it a great place to grow a business.
