Tell us about your business and the role you play in it.
CenterWell Senior Primary Care is a leader in senior-focused primary care, with two locations in the Asheville area. Our board-certified physicians spend more time with patients, giving them the space to ask questions, voice concerns, and feel confident in their care plan. Our integrated care teams create personalized plans that include preventive care, lab work, prescriptions, mental health support, social services, and more. We also host community events at our Activity Centers—including bingo, movie nights, exercise demos, and healthcare classes—to keep both patients and the public engaged and connected.
How has your company grown over the years?
CenterWell is now the largest and fastest-growing senior-focused, value-based primary care provider in the U.S. Alongside our sister brand Conviva Care Center, we form Humana’s Primary Care Organization, serving approximately 318,000 seniors across nearly 300 centers as of March 2024. We currently operate in 15 states, with plans to open 30–50 new centers each year through 2025.
What’s a little-known fact about your business?
CenterWell locations in North Carolina are staffed by a full spectrum of specially trained professionals including physicians, nurse practitioners, medical assistants, behavioral health specialists, clinical pharmacists, and social workers. Patients also benefit from access to nurse care coordinators and referral specialists. In addition to healthcare, each facility includes a community-oriented Activity Center that’s open to the public—not just patients.
How has your company’s idea of success transformed?
CenterWell is focused on creating integrated and differentiated experiences that put patients at the center. Success is no longer just about treatment outcomes—it’s about building a personalized, accessible, and comprehensive healthcare journey that empowers every senior we serve.
What is most important to your company now?
According to Dr. Ahunna Okwubunka-Anyim, Regional Medical Director, “Seniors deserve a primary care provider who truly knows them. Because of our attention to the whole person, physicians and nurse practitioners can spend up to 50% more time with each patient during visits.” Our team understands that seniors often face a complex mix of physical, emotional, and social health needs—and we’re committed to addressing them all.
What do you see as your company’s legacy?
Tiffany Roberts, Market President for North Carolina, says: “We’re excited to bring CenterWell to Asheville seniors. Our unique care model helps seniors live happier, healthier lives. We’re committed to breaking down barriers to care in underserved communities and offering comprehensive, holistic support that improves quality of life for the people we serve.”
