Just like Asheville, Canopy, the Charlotte-based digital advertising company, is growing fast.
“When I started Canopy it was just me and a single employee. Today we’re a team of eight and growing fast,” says Canopy Founder Bobby Youngs. “We’ve had our share of challenges, including Covid, but we’ve learned to thrive by upholding incredibly high standards and working with partners who share our focus and our purpose.”
With a focus on client interests, Canopy is providing accessible, high-quality digital advertising services to its clientele. Now, with a new office in Asheville, Youngs says the company has positioned itself to provide those services to companies in our region they know can benefit from them the most.

Tell us about your business and the role you play in it.
“I worked in digital advertising for more than a decade prior to founding Canopy in 2017. Those experiences validated my belief that there was a need for an agency that could make digital advertising accessible to small and midsized companies with modest budgets.
With that vision in mind, I decided to build an agency from the ground up that would allocate the maximum number of resources so we could deliver actual advertising and value rather than maximizing our profits at the client’s expense.
Today, Canopy has expanded to offer a wide range of digital advertising services including Programmatic Display, Geofencing, Search Engine Marketing (SEM), Strategy and much more.”
How has Canopy grown?
“When I started Canopy it was just me and a single employee. Today we’re a team of eight and growing fast. We’ve had our share of challenges, including Covid, but we’ve learned to thrive by upholding incredibly high standards and working with partners who share our focus and our purpose.
Canopy’s technical capabilities have also expanded significantly over the last eighteen months and now include data analytics and state-of-the-art digital targeting platforms. The only way to thrive is to stay ahead of the curve when the pace of change continues to accelerate.”
What made you choose the Asheville area?
“My wife and I lived in Asheville for eleven years and just fell in love with the place. The combination of diverse personalities, natural beauty and Appalachian culture is unbeatable. Canopy was founded in Charlotte, but we opened an Asheville office earlier this year.
Asheville is growing fast, so we wanted to be well-positioned to provide flexible digital marketing and advertising solutions to the kinds of companies we know can benefit from them the most. Because of our long-term experience, we know firsthand how challenging it can be to pinpoint a target audience and actually deliver measurable marketing results.”
Who are your key partners?
“We are fortunate to work with a wide variety of clients throughout the U.S., including Brunk Auction right here in Asheville. Our partners include companies specializing in senior living, brick and mortar retail sales, education, healthcare and e-commerce. We recently joined forces with Zgraph, an SEO agency based in Daytona Beach to expand our suite of services, which is very exciting for us.”
What does the word “community” mean to you?
“First-and-foremost, Canopy is a purpose-driven company. I have always placed a premium on finding ways to help my clients overcome their unique challenges, which in turn supports their ability to provide for their individual communities. I have been fortunate to see the trends and decisions that separated business that were thriving versus those that stagnated. Applying those lessons when and where they are needed most is an ideal way to give back. Additionally, it’s critical to be open and attentive to community feedback, which is ultimately what created Canopy’s foundation for growth.”
What is most important to you/your company now?
“I tell my team that we must never lose sight of Canopy’s original mission, which is to always act in our client’s best interests. Everything else will follow accordingly.”
What’s on the horizon?
“2021 has been a transformative year for Canopy. As we head into 2022, the team’s central goal will be to ensure we maintain our big vision of delivering value by continuously increasing campaign performance.
In closing, I think that strategic growth requires investing in people and making sure they are for primed success. It’s truly an exciting time to be working in the digital advertising industry and to live and work in North Carolina!”
