Fraudulent Website Alert:

Dogwood Health Trust warns about a fraudulent website falsely claiming to offer Western North Carolina Small Business Initiative (WNCSBI) grants. Applications should only be submitted through the official portal: Appalachian Community Capital. Report suspicious activity at NC DOJ’s Complaint Page.

Storm Debris Removal Updates:

  • Right-of-Way Debris Removal – Crews are making multiple passes to collect storm debris. Separate debris by type (appliances, hazardous waste, etc.) and avoid using black trash bags.
  • Private Property Debris Program – Buncombe County residents can apply to have disaster debris removed from private properties at no cost. Applications are available online and in-person. Learn more here.
  • Waterway Debris Removal – FEMA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers are assessing waterways for debris that threatens public infrastructure or properties.

Grants

  • Buncombe County Homeowner Grant – Applications for this program close today, November 20. Eligible homeowners can receive financial assistance for housing-related costs. Apply now.
  • Hazard Mitigation Grant – Funding is available for property projects like home elevation, reconstruction, or acquisition. Applications are open for a year. Learn more and apply.
