The Meadow at Highland has also reopened for outdoor relaxing. For both spaces, there are a number of restriction and regulations to ensure the safety of all visitors. Check out the volleyball page here before making a reservation or planning a trip out to play.

Anniversary 

  • Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity is celebrating its 30th anniversary this week! Though COVID-19 prevented a big celebration, this is an important milestone for Habitat for Humanity; this store was one of the fist Habitat retails stores in the country, and today, it is one of the highest performing ReStore stores out of 800+. Most importantly, it continues to provide funding for Habitat’s community-based home building programs.

Award 

  • Asheville Rooftop Bar Tours  has been recognized as a 2020 Travelers’ Choice award-winner for Top Attractions. Based on a full year of Tripadvisor reviews (prior to any changes caused by the pandemic) award winners are known for consistently receiving great traveler feedback, placing them in the top 10% of hospitality businesses around the globe.Asheville Rooftop Bar Tours was started in 2018, and it combines the stunning views of Asheville along with the history of the city, all from Asheville’s highly acclaimed rooftop bars. Community

  • Mike Wiley returns to NC Stage Company for a third year to present “Blood Done Sign My Name.” This year, in the wake of difficulty surrounding the typical theatrical experience, Wiley will perform the show live over Zoom, with the audience projected onto screens set up in the seating area. The performance will be accompanied live by powerhouse vocalist Mary D. Williams of Raleigh, NC. The play opens Thursday, Sept. 10 and runs through Sunday, Sept. 27.
  • The Asheville Art Museum is excited to host their first in-person event since March on Saturday, August 29th. They’ll be bringing the Museum outside to the plaza with early bird yoga at 10 a.m., followed by a pop-up shopping experience from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. They will have take-home craft kits for kids, educational stations about public art, scavenger hunts, and more. Face coverings and social distancing is required. 

Expansion 

  • Sona Pharmacy in East Asheville is now is offering on-site flu clinics for Asheville employer groups this fall. To support the ongoing needs of the community, they have opened their schedule to employers to anticipate numerous employers’ needs for the fall. Fundraising 

  • Buncombe Partnership for Children is holding a Summer Splash Raffle fundraiser to help launch the county’s first local Spanish language Play and Learn group. Raffle tickets are just $5, and you could win a water slide, bubble sticks, a palm tree sprinkler, and a few more summer surprises. Tickets are on sale until Monday.
