  • AdventHealth Hendersonville is hosting a free webinar tomorrow, July 28, to learn about advanced treatment for shoulder pain! Orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Robert Boykin will talk about the common symptoms and conditions related to chronic shoulder pain and share information on the types of treatments, including when shoulder replacement surgery may be the best option.   • The Happy Hour event from Asheville Development Happenings is returning Wednesday, July 28 from 3:30 – 5 p.m. at Rabbit Rabbit! Broker Asheville of Keller Williams and Carla & Company Commercial Real Estate have invited notable companies to share their ongoing projects and key learnings with other professionals in the industry such as developers, architects, builders and real estate agents. Companies will present their projects in a pecha kucha style, invented by a Japanese Architect. The presenter gets 20 Slides with 20 Seconds on each slide, which is a total of 6 mins 40 seconds per presentation.   • Join Lenoir-Rhyne Equity and Diversity Institute (LREDI), to hear guest speakers, and other equity advocates during their free Folding Chair Session on Tuesday, August 31 at 6 p.m. to network and discuss topics surrounding equity and diversity in our community. Learn more and RSVP here.
  • The American Cancer Society’s ‘Making Strides Against Breast Cancer’ Walk will return Saturday, October 23 to Asheville’s Pack Square Park. The non-competitive, family-friendly 5K walk raises money to help the American Cancer Society fund breast cancer research and provide patient services like free rides to chemo, free places to stay newar treatment and a live 24/7 cancer helpline. Local residents can form teams, join teams, walk as individuals or make donations to support the local Making Strides Against Breast Cancer movement. Opening:

  • Melting Pot Social, a new restaurant affiliated with the popular Melting Pot brand, opened its doors last week in downtown Asheville. Located at 74 Patton Avenue, the restaurant features whimsical cocktails and curated bites, including a cheddar cheese fondue featuring Hi-Wire Bed of Nails. Lunch and brunch are coming soon, but for now, the restaurant is open from 4 – 10 p.m. on weekdays and 3 – 10 p.m. on weekends. Reservations are currently not being accepted.   • The WNC Minority Business Association has announced its inaugural WNC Black Business Expo – a networking and learning event focusing on minority-owned businesses and entrepreneurs. Scheduled for April 8-10, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel & Resort in Asheville, the three-day event is expected to attract about 1,000 attendees from across the region. Opportunities:

  • Pisgah Legal Services is looking for a Mountain Area Volunteer Lawyer Program Coordinator to join their team that connects neighbors with free legal help from private, volunteer attorneys in WNC. The person in this position will coordinate the referral of clients to private attorneys for pro bono service and track and organize dozens of cases per month.   • The SPARC Foundation is seeking a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS) with a background in family systems work to provide home-based treatment services to families engaged with the Department of Social Services. Parental substance abuse continues to be a leading factor in DSS involvement, which often results in children being removed from their homes. SPARC believes families want and deserve to be together, but poverty, addiction, isolation, and poor role models have led many families into dysfunction.   • The Lenoir-Rhyne Equity and Diversity Institute (LREDI) is now accepting registrations for the Fall term. Course sessions will be held September 1 – 10, October 7 – 16, and November 1 – 3. While most of the courses will still be offered virtually, Lenoir-Rhyne will also offer various in-person courses throughout the Fall schedule at Lenoir-Rhyne University Center for Graduate Studies of Asheville at 36 Montford Ave. In other news, participants can now earn CEU credit for the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) and CLE credit for the NC State Bar through certain LREDI coursework.
