The YMCA of Western North Carolina will expand its middle school programming from Buncombe County to McDowell County with the help of a $1.2 million federal grant. The funds will support the Y’s Horizons program at 11 middle schools through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program over a three-year period.

Expansion

  • The YMCA of Western North Carolina will expand its middle school programming from Buncombe County to McDowell County with the help of a $1.2 million federal grant. The funds will support the Y’s Horizons program at 11 middle schools through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program over a three-year period. There is no charge for the Horizons program, which emphasizes student success through tutoring, extended school day enrichment, increased parent and family involvement, and holistic social and emotional learning. Registration opens later this fall for the program, which will begin in October. Hire 

  • AdventHealth Hendersonville is excited to announce the addition of Marianna Benson, DO, to its team of providers. Dr. Benson will offer primary care with a focus on geriatrics at AdventHealth Medical Group Multispecialty at Laurel Park, conveniently located just off Highway 64 near Downtown Hendersonville. Dr. Benson is board-certified in family medicine and fellowship-trained in geriatrics.
  • United Federal Credit Union has named Brad Brevard to the position of Branch Manager at its Asheville branch. As branch manager, Brevard will be responsible for maintaining the performance of the branch, and providing leadership and supervision to staff. Brevard brings more than 12 years of experience in the financial services industry. Congrats, Brad!
  • Mountain Credit Union’s Board of Directors has officially named Amy Woody as Patty Idol’s successor. Woody is MCU’s current Executive Vice President. She also began her career with MCU in 1985 as a Member Service Representative and eventually became the Branch Manager in Fletcher, NC. She has over 29 years of credit union experience, including 23 years at Mountain Credit Union, and has held the position of EVP since 2003.
