Two nursing students in Mars Hill University’s Judge-McRae School of Nursing will spend the summer learning from and working with nurses at Veterans Administration facilities in the area. Michaela Baker of Arden, NC, and William Brawley of Morganton, NC, were selected for the VALOR Program, which stands for VA Learning Opportunities Residency, at the Western North Carolina VA Health Care System. The program gives rising seniors in nursing schools the opportunity to work as residents in a clinical setting at a Veterans Administration medical facility. The ceremony on Friday, May 7 will include a guest speaker, congratulatory acknowledgements for graduates, a tassel turning ceremony and fireworks. Montford Park Players will present a production of William Shakespeare’s A Comedy of Errors May 7-May 22 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings at 7:30 p.m. at the Hazel Robinson Ampitheater (92 Gay Street). Explore Asheville Convention and Visitors Bureau has announced the appointment of Asheville native Marshall Hilliard as the organization’s new vice president of sales. Hilliard, who has experience in hospitality sales and marketing spanning nearly three decades, has previously held leadership positions with major hotel brands like Hilton and Westin in major cities across the United States. Most recently, Hilliard served as area director of sales and marketing for Windsor Hospitality’s Marriott brands. He succeeds Dianna Pierce who retired in March after 26 years with Explore Asheville.
