Award

  • The National Association of Social Workers North Carolina has named Elizabeth Vogler, MSW, Ph.D., the 2020 Social Worker of the Year. Dr. Vogler is professor of social work and chair of the department of social work at Mars Hill University. The NASW-NC Social Worker of the Year Award is an annual award given to a social work professional who has demonstrated commendable social work practice and involvement with NASW and other professional, civic, and community organizations. Congrats, Dr. Vogler!

Expansion

  • Grafton City Hospital in Grafton, West Virginia is the newest addition to Capstone Health Alliance. Capstone will provide Grafton City Hospital with opportunities to receive best practice supplies at a cost-efficient price to treat their patients more effectively. Capstone Health Alliance is a Fletcher-based regional group of healthcare members.

Funding

  • There is a new scholarship available to Carolina Day School prospective students. The Nancy Owen Cecil Scholarship Award, funded through a permanent endowment recently established by George Cecil at The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, is the largest scholarship created by a donor in the school’s history. The renewable four-year scholarship is for new students with financial need who have met the school’s admission criteria for ninth grade. The scholarship covers extracurricular expenses too, and will be open for applications for the 2020-2021 school year. For information about the scholarship, call the school at 828-407-4442.

Innovation

  • National Wiper Alliance announced their collaboration with Gelest, Inc. to enhance their newly introduced Quat Keeper food service towels. The towels are available in a variety of colors and fiber blends, including all-natural compostable fibers. Quat is an ammonium compound that cleans towels but does not provide protection against odor, bacterial, and mold growth; however, thanks to Gelest’s Biosafe antimicrobial technology, this new line of towels will protect against quat depletion and create a safer option for food service towels.

Hire

  • Josh Teague, a licensed North Carolina attorney with more than 12 years of experience, has joined Capua Law as part of its ongoing regional growth strategy. Founding attorney Paul Capua states: “I am very pleased to have Josh join our team. He is a skilled trial lawyer with extensive courtroom experience, and we look forward to bringing those skills into our firm.” Capua Law focuses on construction, business and employment law and has offices in North Carolina and Florida.
