Dogwood Health Trust has added two members to its Board of Directors. The Board has confirmed Carol Burton, Ed.D. (Jackson County) and Jamie McMahan (Yancey County) as new members. Carol Burton serves as vice provost of academic affairs for Western Carolina University (WCU), a role she has held since 2019. A first-generation college student and graduate of WCU, Burton has spent her 30-year career in higher education – all of it devoted to her alma mater. Jamie McMahan is the Executive Director of the Yancey County Planning & Economic Development Commission. He is responsible for overseeing all Yancey County planning and economic development initiatives, all public capital construction projects, and management of capital project financing, and fundraising to promote business and economic development interests in the community. The Land of the Sky Association of REALTORS (LOTSAR) will host a series of clinics to help residents of Buncombe County understand their property values. Volunteer realtors will be available to show residents their property cards, look at comparable properties, and provide information about the property value appeal process and available tax relief programs. Events are being held across Buncombe County and realtors are available in-person and by phone throughout January. More information about these events can be found here.
The Asheville Junior Theatre (AJT) presents Peter Pan Jr. at the Wortham Arts Center in two performances on Saturday, January 14 and Sunday, January 15. Peter Pan is one of the most beloved and frequently performed family favorites of all time. The Magnetic Theatre presents HappyLand, a new musical by Brayden Dickerson and Zach Knox of Asheville band Smooth Goose, running February 10 through February 25, 2023. HappyLand, a fun and fantastical new musical by Brayden Dickerson and Zach Knox of Asheville’s blues-fusion band Smooth Goose, kicks off the Magnetic Theatre’s 2023 Mainstage Season, featuring live tunes and an exciting ensemble of quirky characters. On Valentine’s evening, Tuesday, February 14, Wrong Way River Lodge & Cabins is hosting a Family Movie Night! They’ll serve their new s’mores boards (think ice cream sundae toppings, but for s’mores) from the Newstock Pantry team, launching 1/16, plus plēb Sparkling Lambrusca by the glass for the adults.
