Asheville School Drama presents “Anatomy of Gray” by Jim Leonard, Jr., coming to the Walker Arts Center’s Graham Theater on Thursday, October 20 and Friday, October 21 at 7:15 p.m.
Director John Crawley is excited to present this ensemble play that the author calls “a children’s story for adults.”
The publisher, Samuel French, Inc., describes the play: “When June’s father dies, she prays for a healer to come to the small town of Gray, so that no one will ever suffer again; the next thing she knows, there’s a tornado, and a man in a balloon blows into town claiming to be a doctor. At first, the new doctor cures anything and everything, but soon the town’s preacher takes ill with a mysterious plague.”
When Crawley first read the script, he was taken by the story and themes. “The play deals with morality, religion, love, and loss,” he said. “I am looking forward to directing a play with this depth—it gives the cast a chance to dig deeper.”
Stage Manager Ella McIntosh ’18 is excited to see the play come together. “The fall play is like the Drama Department’s big game,” she said. “This play will be the result of a lot of hard work from everyone involved. We get two days to show off what we have accomplished, and I know it is going to be really good.”
“Anatomy of Gray” will be performed at Asheville School in the Walker Arts Center’s Graham Theater. Both shows are free and open to the public, and seating may be limited.
