There’s more to our city’s rooftop bars than meets the eye. The curious Kaye Bentley, founder and owner of Asheville Rooftop Bar Tours, has dedicated herself to sharing the unique history, tastes and architecture of Asheville that dates back to the late 1800’s— all through the bird’s eye view of rooftop bars. What role do you play in your business?

I’m Kaye Bentley, the founder and owner. I am also one of our company’s tour guides.

Tell us the basics about your business.

Asheville Rooftop Bar Tours opened for business in July, 2018. Our company has created tours that are a one of a kind blend of city history and sightseeing, with award winning rooftop bars included in the mix. Our mission is to share the history of the city in a unique way for locals and visitors alike, using historical photos from the late 1800’s and early 1900’s for a “then and now” perspective. We also want to introduce folks to the vibrant and ever popular rooftop bar scene in Asheville.

At each rooftop bar, we share the history, then allow ample time for guests to enjoy drinks and delicious small plates while they take in the gorgeous views of the city and the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains. We offer this up in a fun and relaxing atmosphere where we take care of all of the details for you. Another great thing about our tours; a driver! We have a company van.

Where did your vision begin? How has it grown?

My vision for this company began last year when I was at a new rooftop bar in Asheville for the first time. I fell in love with seeing the old buildings from above and immediately felt surrounded by the rich history of the city. I was curious about these buildings, and their stories, and thought other people might be interested in this type of thing as well. Thus began many months of research for the historical photos to help tell the tale. We have set up a one of a kind tour that boasts some of the most spectacular views and best food and drinks around.

What has been your greatest challenge? Your greatest victory?

Our greatest challenge so far has been to share with folks that we are a year round tour company. The rooftop bars are open all year and we visit them even in the colder months, since they have done an incredible job of making their outdoor areas very inviting and comfortable. They provide covered spaces, outdoor fire pits, tower heaters and electric heaters, so we are able to offer our tours seven days a week, rain or shine. We also offer custom tours.
