The Autumn Players’ Readers Theatre Showcase Series Presents Other Desert Cities: In this contemporary drama set in Palm Springs, a grown up daughter presents her parents with her soon to be published memoir in which she challenges the integrity of their actions around a tragic event in the past. The ensuing confrontation threatens to splinter the family and compels her to face the difference between memory and truth. Directed by Anita Chapman. Performances are Friday, October 31 and Saturday, November 1, 2014 in 35below at Asheville Community Theatre and Sunday, November 2, 2014 at the Reuter Center on the campus of UNCA. All performances begin at 2:30 pm. Tickets are $6.00 (includes NC Sales Tax) and are available at the door.
Youth Production Class Presents Charlotte’s Web: Charlotte’s Web, named “the best American children’s book of the past two hundred years” by the Children’s Literature Association, is brought to life onstage in this enchanting play. All the favorite characters are here: Wilbur, the irresistible young pig; Fern, a girl who understands what animals say to each other; Templeton, the gluttonous rat; and the extraordinary spider, Charlotte, who proves to be “a true friend and a good writer.” This is a beautiful, knowing play about friendship that is a crowd-pleaser for audiences of all ages! This production is performed by a class of students ranging in age from 7 to 13. Performances are Thursday, October 30 at 7:30 pm; Saturday, November 1 and Sunday, November 2 at 2:30 pm. God of Carnage Opens in 35below: Attic Salt Theatre Company returns to 35below in November with their production of God of Carnage directed by Jeff Catanese. In God of Carnage, a playground altercation between 11 year-old boys brings together two sets of Brooklyn parents to resolve the matter. At first, diplomatic niceties are observed, but as the meeting progresses, the gloves come off. Winner of the 2009 Tony Award. God of Carnage will be performed November 7-23, 2014 with performances Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 pm and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm. Youth Production Class Presents The Wizard of OZ: Little Dorothy Gale of Kansas, like so many girls her age, dreams of what lies over the rainbow. One day a twister hits her farm and carries her away over the rainbow to another world. Come join Dorothy and Toto as they travel through the world of OZ and meet the Scarecrow, the Tinman, the Cowardly Lion, a host of Munchkins, and the wickedest witch of all! This production is performed by a class of students ranging in age from 5 to 15. Performances are Friday, November 14 at 7:30 pm; Saturday, November 15 and Sunday, November 16 at 2:30 pm. Auditions for A Chorus Line: Auditions for A Chorus Line will be held November 23, 2014 from 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm and November 24, 2014 from 6:00-9:00 pm at Asheville Community Theatre. This show features a large cast and the director seeks singers who can dance and dancers who can sing. Auditions are open to all in the community, no previous experience required. Be prepared to sing 16 bars of music and bring sheet music to the audition in the key in which it will be sung. We will provide an accompanist. Directed by Chanda Calentine with musical direction by Gary Mitchell and choreography by Tina Pisano-Foor.
Storytelling series Listen to This:In the vein of “The Moth” or “This American Life,” Listen to This features stories and original songs from locals. November’s installment will be presented on November 20, 2014 at 7:30 pm in 35below. Hosted by Tom Chalmers. Tickets are $15.00.
