2014 Xmas Jam House to be built in Hudson Hills

December 2, 2014

On December 12 at 3pm, Warren Haynes will join Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity, “Before the Jam, Lend a Hand” volunteers and the Garcia-Sanchez family to raise the first wall of the 2014 Xmas Jam House. This year’s Jam House is being built on Soulshine Court, a street named after one of Warren’s most beloved songs. The subdivision name, Hudson Hills, pays homage to Haynes’ and his wife Stefani Scamardo’s young son, Hudson.

Warren Haynes Presents: The Annual Christmas Jam has raised more than $1.8m for Asheville area Habitat for Humanity, building houses and neighborhoods for hard-working Buncombe County families in need of safe, decent and affordable homes. Just this past summer, Haynes presented Asheville Habitat with the proceeds from last year’s sold-out 2-night, 25thAnniversary Xmas Jam – a whopping $500,000. Xmas Jam funds are used to acquire land for future Habitat neighborhoods and build Habitat homes, like this year’s 4 bedroom/2 bath house that the Garcia-Sanchez family will call their home by next summer.

As in past years, Habitat will again host local and out-of-town volunteers for “Before the Jam, Lend a Hand”. In the days leading up to the benefit concert, fans get involved with the cause that the Jam supports by participating in a hands-on way. Volunteers help both on the jobsite and in the ReStore, some helping to prepare the floor system and build the walls that will be raised during the event on December 12.

Merrell will again sponsor the event, providing t-shirts and hats to all participants, as well as a chance to win gift certificates. Lunch sponsors include 12 Bones and Mellow Mushroom.

About the Garcia-Sanchez Family:

(Pictured: Carlos with their two daughters. Not pictured: Veronica and their son)

Carlos Sanchez works at Clement Pappas, Inc. (a company best known for its production of cranberry juices) as a 3rd shift Production Leader, a job he has held for many years. His wife, Veronica Sanchez, stays at home with their infant son and their two daughters attend A.C. Reynolds High School.

The family of five currently lives in a 2-bedroom trailer that has mold, mildew, and water issues and high utility costs. Like many Buncombe County families, the Garcia-Sanchez family “works hard but falls short” due to the discrepancy between high housing costs and low wages. Thanks to Warren Haynes Presents: the Annual Christmas Jam, the Garcia-Sanchez has the opportunity to purchase a 4-bedroom/2-bath Habitat house in the Hudson Hills subdivision of West Asheville. Their house will be known as the “2014 Christmas Jam House” and construction will begin on December 9, 2014.
