On May 28, thought leaders gather at the 2015 Manufacturing Excellence Summit in Asheville to present innovative industry practices.

Asheville Angels, an angel investor group formed in 2014 to invest in startups and high-growth companies in Asheville and across the Southeast, announced two more investments, in ActivEd Inc and Baebies Inc. Following its January investment in Asheville-based Plum Print, Asheville Angels has collectively invested more than $200,000 into three startups.

Reaching another key milestone in bringing their east coast brewery online, New Belgium Brewing’s Asheville Distribution Center construction has been completed. The company will begin shipping beer from the Asheville Distribution Center by the end of 2015. The distribution center will serve the eastern United States and will support the company’s national expansion.

Wicked Weed Brewing breaks ground today on outfitting its new brewing facility on the western edge of Asheville. The company’s expansion will add 82 new jobs and invest $5 million in facilities and equipment over the next three years. The 40,000-square-foot brewhouse will enable Wicked Weed to help meet rapidly growing demand and scale its capacity up to 50,000 barrels a year.

UNC Asheville will hold its annual Job & Internship Fair on March 26 at 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Wilma M. Sherrill Center on campus. Over 300 attendees are expected to attend looking for work at local area employers. Employers must register online in advance.

Asheville Angels, a group of angel investors formed in 2014 to invest in startups and high-growth companies in Asheville and across the Southeast, announced it has made its first investment, in Plum Print Inc. Plum Print raised $1 million from venture capital and angel investors to expand its business of transforming kids' artwork into personalized coffee table books.

White Labs Inc. announced on January 9 its first East Coast laboratory operation in Asheville that will create 65 new jobs and invest $8.1 million over the next five years. Founded in San Diego, Calif. in 1995, White Labs Inc. is a world leader in fermentation sciences for the brewing and winemaking industries.

Job seekers with a New Year’s resolution of advancing their career in 2015 can start with the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce’s 9th Annual Homecoming Job Fair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2015. The region's largest annual job fair will be held at the Davis Event Center at the WNC Agriculture Center in Fletcher.
